99% of the supply of hydrogen comes from fossil fuels, with horrific well-to-wheel efficiency. If you want to reduce emissions from rail transport, hydrogen is not the way. Of course you can cherry-pick insignificant examples from the 1% slice of the hydrogen pie that is “green” but that seems out of character for someone who prizes no-nonsense economic analysis.

The so-called “market” for this stuff is heavily distorted by state incentives shaped by the fossil fuel lobby. When it comes to hydrogen trains, the so-called “math” and “cost benefit ratio” are pure fiction. You might at least show us some reports from credible organizations before relying on your usual credentialism to dismiss an argument you don’t like.
