I assure you that in every company which indulges in "feel good" advertising, the employees ALWAYS say they'd rather have the money!! :-) I worked for Kaiser Permanente and in 1982 they did the unheard of and hired J. Walter Thompson to develop not only a comprehensive multi-media advertising program but also a logo------the one you see today--------they spent huge amounts of money on it. I still have somewhere the binder full of rules and regulations about utilization of the logo, right down to PMS ink tones, sizes of type etc. etc. The first thing to happen was that the employees instantly "named' the logo for what they thought they saw in it (and it wasn't complimentary) and then @#$%& incessantly about the real and imaginary cost of it all. And then out came the tv ads which featured actual physicians-----------and all the BS died down and the buttons began to pop with pride and today the tv campaign is the one you see with "Thrive" as the slogan and yes, there are irreverent in-house employee versions of this but down deep, we're all damn proud of it. And I'm sure the guys at GE who build the logos have some really funny things to say about the ads as well, but love them all the same. Those ads serve many purposes, the least of which is probably advertising the specific product.
