I think this GE ad is what we call corporate positioning. Ergo, trying to make the general public aware that this large corporations contribute lots of different things to the economy. As companies merge and grow, they need to remind the public of their different products to the market. Hence ADM (Archers Daniel Midlands) which does major corporate positioning advertising and others like them.

Anyway, I suggest you just enjoy the ad for what it is, and it's really kind of funny to watch, for all the reasons others have posted before.
