I was remiss when I mentioned M-B 2-8-2T 1055 ending steam logging for them. M-B had two operations with 1055 and Montreal-built 2-6-2 1077 hauling logs from Nanaimo Lakes to Diamond
Yard near Ladysmith. 1077 was a smaller version of McCloud's 25 without the Superheater. From there, E&N Baldwin diesels took the logs South to the mill @ Chemainus and turned them over to M-B again. Preferred power here was Porter-built 2-6-2T 1044, but she was out of service at the end with bad tires, so the spare engine, Baldwin 2-8-2T 1066 was used. Even though bigger on paper, the 1066 was not as good a puller as the 1044. This operation had a switchback allowing access to the log dump. At the end, the ties were pretty spongy and you had to go easy especially when pulling empties back up the grade. 1044 and 1066 were both side tankers, while 1055 on the woods operation was a saddletank engine.
