I too have my doubts as to BNSF 999000 being the former ATSF 999000, as this 1st Ce-1 was rebuilt in 1967 from a 1940's vintage caboose. That's a long time to dodge the scrapyard. The rebuilding involved covering up some side windows, installing sealed glass in all remaining side & door windows, installing radios, & installing end-of-car cushioning devices(hence the 'Shock Control' bright red paint).
As for shoving platforms, I spotted 3 ex-BN green cabeese today in Tacoma yard; only 2 were labeled as such however all 3 have locked doors & steel plates over all windows, including the cupola windows. A real oddity is under the car repair shed; a wide vision caboose with all windows intact & new green & yellow paint, complete with BNSF swoosh logos on the sides !!!
