You're right. It's a beautiful example of how not to start a restoration. However this happened about 30 years ago. The museum learned from its mistakes. Today a restoration project does not start without funding, available shop space, and a competent person to supervise it. Witness the restoration of Muni #1016 that was dedicated last month. SN #1005 will be dedicated next Saturday. Both are outstanding meticulous restorations.
