The original 3rd & Kearny routing is vastly preferable to Rose Pak's 4th & Stockton which prevailed. It would have crossed Market at the mezzanine level and could have been cut and covered all the way to North Beach. An excellent station at Portsmouth Square serving both the financial district and Chinatown(and the new SF City College tower).

It would also allow the option of turning onto Broadway and digging under the auto tunnel to a station at Broadway and Van Ness. My thought was to mine from there to a station at Fillmore and Lombard. I suspect there will eventually emerge opposition to the Columbus Avenue tunnel extension plans. The Broadway Tunnel alignment would roughly follow the existing 30X express bus route.
