1) both transcontinental lines across Canada just before VIA Rail took over.
2) the WP&Y from Skagway all the way to Whitehorse, Y.T. and later to Bennett, B.C. by steam.
3) the Nevada Northern from Cobre to East Ely, NV
4) the OC&E line out of Klamath Falls
5) the Alaska RR (Anchorage to Fairbanks and Anchorage to Seward) before the Federal government turned it over to the state of Alaska.
6) the Wyoming & Colorado RR from Walden, CO to Laramie WY.
7) the BC Ry. from Prince George to N. Vancouver by regular RDC train.
8) the Okanagan Express special train from Vancouver to Penticton, B.C.
9) the Soo Line caboose mixed train out of Sault Ste. Marie.
10) the South Shore with the old Insull Lines interurban cars.
11) the Reader Railroad mixed train behind steam
12) trips in or out of four of the six Chicago passenger stations (not including Randolph St.)
As far as Amtrak is concerned, I'm glad I rode the Pioneer, Desert Wind, Spirit of California, Texas Chief, National Limited, Broadway Limited, Chief (operated one summer only), Adirondack (under D&H contract), and the ex-L&N Gulf Coast portion of the Sunset Limited.
Ah yes, one more I'm most grateful for: the Rio Grande Zephyr four times!
