The collection was in excellent condition when donated.

It is also important to note that this whole thing occurred at a time when CSRM was in a growth stage and it had the "galloping gimmes." IOW, they wanted everything whether they could handle it or not. They did not want any other museum or preservation group to get things that CSRM considered to be "theirs."
