WPG3 put a lot of effort into trying to get the original MORT built. I have seen some of the plans for this building, and though it was advertised as a museum, it was really designed to get the collection indoors. The "museum" branding was for political purposes to make the project more attractive. It was essentially a large and relatively inexpensive storage building with a restoration shop. After all, how are you going to get the state and it's taxpayers to fund a storage building for rusting old trains? How many vote is some legislator going to loose when the tv news reports on this "waste?"
I doubt that any of the haters on here could have done any better in WPGs place, but let's face it, this isn't about CSRM as much as it is about ideology. Some people believe that the government should be capable of doing everything for free, and when it doesn't, then it's proof the government is incompetent and corrupt. Truth is that the government is just made up of people, same as the folks that make up corporations, and same as the folks in the non-profit railroad museums too. this latter group of people have lost a lot of stuff to various vultures and scrappers as well. In any case, if you've gotta gripe, then do something constructive about it.
