That was a GP40P-2 with a boiler. Note the split fuel / water tanks. SP bought 3 of these [3197-99] to compliment the 9 SDP40's (which were bought to replace the ageing PA1's and various E and F units). The EMD's replaced the H24-66's and worked along side the GP9's until CALTRAIN units took over the commute service.
Later in their lives the GP's joined the regular freight pool. All are long gone from the UP roster.
