They 3200's were SDP45's and there were ten of them. With the coming of Amtrak, several of them were leased to provide power for the Coast Starlight until the arrival of the SDP40F's.
With the retirement of the Train Masters, all ten were transferred to the Peninsula commutes and the SP bought the three GP40P-2's. That (plus the GP and SD9's) would be the power for the next ten years until the arrival of CalTrain's F40's which,at first, pulled the old SP equipment until the new cars arrived.
