There is a chasm between what is illegal and what is unethical. The type of overt corruption that was seen in Bell was embarrassing to the establishment and so blatant it amounted to an easy bust. But the type of influence peddling, "lobbying", and collusion we see in California is so institutionalized it falls under the legal radar. Of course, this is not by accident.
The only recourse, as futile as it may seem, is to keep @#$%&, pissing and moaning about what you perceive as a mistake or a scandal. I have been kvetching for a couple of years that Tejon is a better route for hsr than Tehachapi. Well come to find out PB apparently is going to take another look at the issue. So at least we will get a token review.
I don't buy into the idea that you have to go with the program or else nothing will get done. To me you get more done by fixing an error before it is implemented.
So go Altamont too - at the end of the day it is a better route than Pacheco.
