OPB covered all the points.

Of course, don't blame the mode for the behavior of the people on board. If you have ridden many a bus, streetcar or subway you will encounter bums, drunks, gangbangers, pervs, louts, crazies and stinkies, etc. but that's urban America. Some lines are pretty scary, but it is the people not the vehicle who are the problem.

On the other hand there is BART noise, for which there is imho no excuse. There is a special concentric circle in Dante's hell reserved for those who are responsible for that.
