So far ...
No injuries or deaths.
No claims of substantial enviromental impacts.
Equipment and tracks can usually be repaired or replaced.
The damage is primarily confined to the railroad's property.
I've been involved in a few minor derailments and oops - the worst being a few cars on their side. There is still a great potential for someone getting injured getting the mess cleaned up. Did it cost the railroad some good money - yes. But it was a "successful" accident, considering that it could be much worse, and lives could have been damaged or lost.
When things go that wrong, walking away from it is something to be thankful for.
