Uh, no Mike. In steam heat days, the private railroads that then ran passenger trains positioned the sleepers on the rear 90 % of the time. Diners were usually positioned mid - train, where they could serve both coach & 1st class passengers. When a 1st class lounge or parlor car was used, it was usually positioned directly behind the diner, and the attendant or conductor on this car served as a barrier to coach passengers wanting to venture into 1st class cars. While supplying steam heat to the rear of long trains was a problem no matter how the consist was arranged, most railroads still arranged their consists in the traditional manner, with 1st class cars on the rear.
