Speaking of the calendar, I must extend a huge thanks to the chasers and non-riders for supporting the organization by donating the photos that they worked for. It's one thing to take photos and keep them to yourselves, but those who have donated photos that have made it into the calendar deserve credit. The calendar became a good fundraising item for us, and it wouldn't be possible without those photos since each featured image raises up to $1,800 (after expenses) for the organization.

I understand both sides of the situation. Being on both sides myself, I saw the calendar as an excellent compromise that helps this conflict become a win-win for everyone. If your photo(s) made the calendar and someone gives you a bad time for being a chaser, your printed name in the calendar is your ticket as far as I'm concerned.

Please understand that the 4449 volunteers are a little on edge here due to a looming eviction, moving to a new home, and the upcoming boiler rebuild. All of these have large costs involved, especially when it comes to mainline excursions. Note that insurance liabilities and operating costs of smaller operations, such as Mt. Hood Railroad, Sumpter Valley, Oregon Coast, etc. aren't as astronomical as operating a much larger, faster locomotive and train on a mainline railroad.
