I think the hobby hasn't changed as much as how much I've changed. I used for write the SP column for Flimsies West, and then there was writing the SP Review magazine, a favorite of mine. Sometimes I find myself reflecting on "the good old days" or how there were a lot more interesting things to see on a railroad. The generations of railfans before me sometimes said the same thing. I'm sure the railfan generation after me does likewise.
The railroad hobbby has changed a lot during my 67 years, but it still intersting to me. I don't go out and take as many pictures like I used to. It's not so much lack of interest. It is lack of time. As president of our Live Steamers club I devote a lot of time to our club and park layout. It's something I never thought I would be doing when I was a railfan pup, but it's just as much fun as the railfanning I used to do.
I've always enjoyed railroad history - both in writing about it, and in research. That's something I doubt time and my age will lose interest in.
I enjoy seeing what other railfans like to share - both in my age bracket and younger. Just because I may not fully understand some of the information, I still like to learn.
