The "fix" is to be performed on structural parts that are separate pieces from the exterior body shell. The body finish is not endangered by work on the suspension towers.
As for painting what might not be used again, that would only be a concern if there was a chance they would indeed not be used again. There is no such chance. While the problem presents some engineering challenges, they are by no means so complex that the sets are in any way in danger of permanent retirement. WA-DOT *will* be reinstating these sets, there is no "if" or "might" about it.
