Ridership has declined drastically since the whole economic collapse starting in 2007. Amtrak has cut more round trips each year at the end of the season. Shorter trains were run the last couple years. Personally, I'm surprised its lasted this long. I believe the Amtrak excuse claiming a lack of available equipment is a rouse. Congestion in the Oakland Maintenance Facility and tension between Amtrak-CCJPA-Caltrans and an unwillingness on the part of Key Holiday to admit that no one wants to ride these trains anymore in the current economic climate is the real reason.
