Kodak Medalist, built like a tank you say??? I was riding with Jack Anderson in his 1935 International truck, doing 40mph on a rough dirt road by Mt. Rainier (even the Climax at Mt. Rainier Scenic is smooth compared to that ride!). The door popped open and my Medalist bounced out! We stopped and I went back to get it, the only damage were few scuffs on the case!
By the way, the Medalist's 101mm Ektar was an extremely sharp lens and the 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 format with that lens gave a great big image that allowed the proverbial wide angle/telephoto before zooms came into their own.
The Kodak Retina cameras were excellent, but, unfortunately, were not of US manufacture, being made by Kodak A. G. in Germany.
Most of the Graflex products were excellent cameras, however the little National Graflex using 120 film was a dog. Dad took a number of RR pix with his before junking it due to poor lenses.
Kodak going away is like Baldwin disappearing. On the other hand, no more discarded yellow film boxes cluttering our photos!
