The Medalist apparently came in various versions of varying lens quality. I borrowed my father's Medalist in 1957 for my first fan trip, and the lens was crap....as demonstrated by this image:
My first railfan image
But I know there were more upscale versions, and somebody mentioned the Retina 35mm camera. A good friend used his father's Retina for Kodachrome slides back in the 50's and they are gangbusters quality.
Kodak is the victim of management without great vision, which is not all that uncommon these days.....having the kind of vision necessary to adapt to rapidly changing technology and globalization is not easy. A lot of great companies have gone away, some for lack of vision, some simply because their niche in the market totally disappearred. Change is a @#$%&. My memories of Kodak are both good and bad....Kodachrome was a great film, but their lab in Palo Alto ruined some pictures I wish I still had.
