Go to amtrak.com
The purchase ticket page will come up. Very close to the bottom is where you select how many tickets you want. Enter "ONE" for the 2-15.
INSTANTLY this message comes up:
"Children and infants must travel with an adult who is at least 18 years or older"
WHOEVER PURCHASED THAT TICKET KNEW ABOUT THE AGE REQUIREMENT AND SHOULD ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITY.
Something, somewhere, happened that made the AMTRAK lawyers put that rule in there and here is one scenario:
AMTRAK was travelling between point "A" and point "B" when something happened (train wreck ahead, track closed by snow, mudslide, etc.) that the train couldn't get through and no alternate transportation was available. AMTRAK put the passengers that were on board in a hotel. The hotel would not give a room to an unaccompanied 15 year old.
This is the lawyers solution.
