I think he does know what he is talking about.

I doubt that very many state parks have a positive financial bottom line, but some do - the more popular ones, such as CSRM. The problem is that closing any of them to public access provides no substantive savings to the state. Because the incremental costs imposed by each visitor is actually very small, while at the came time, overhead costs are very high. Most all of the costs will continue unabated anyway.

Worse yet, because of the closure to the public, user fee revenue is reduced to zero! This while politicians are claiming less money will come from tax revenue as well (fat chance), to support these continuing costs. Closing them will end up costing the taxpayer much more than if they are left open; especially if deferred maintenance ends up destroying the asset altogether. And if deferred maintenance is not resorted to, the taxpayer will have to continue to foot the bill to prevent it - the whole bill, without any help from user fees at all. It's a dumb stupid idea!

So are the politicians doing this actually stupid? ---- Nay!
Clever - like the @#$%&! ---- Corrupt Indeed!

They are in fact trying to bully the voters into approving more and more taxes. There is no other rational explaination for their actions. If not so - then why do they never shut down programs that are less important to the average voter. It is always police, fire, transportation, etc, that gets gutted, while most of the tax revenue continues to go elsewhere (where is never mentioned by any politician). Most appalling is that some County DAs (CC County for example) are refusing to prosecute all but the most serious crimes - until they get "budget increases". In many cases the police won't even make a police report because of it - it's no use.

But this is nothing new in Calilala Land. Before the State Constitution was changed in 1978, they just took whatever they damn well wanted in taxes - even if the voters rejected it - even if the average joe had no more money to pay it with. It was just tough t..t... to him!

Ever since - one government task after another that was actually important to the average voter, was gutted - and re-gutted; while other less important, and even obscure, programs were fully funded year after year. Along with that came demand after demand for tax increases to restore those gutted items. Even worse, once those taxes are passed, in case after case, the State has just robbed them again for other uses. They then come back again demanding even more - always to restore again, what was important to the taxpayer.

So why not just gut those less important (to the average taxpayer) government programs and leave the important ones alone? Duh! --- no one would vote to raise taxes for them - Duh! Duh! Duh!

We are definitely being bullied - and will continue to be bullied - until we stop electing corrupt bullies to the state house. -- Or depart for a better run state government that actually had the real public interests at heart. Almost any other state (away from the coastal area) will do.

As to the once grand State of Kalilala -- the party is over!
Somebody should just have the mercy to turn out the lights!
