Too bad about the new managemant at the Izaak - I used to work at the Izaak when Larry & Lynda owned it. They were great at finding ways to accept not only railfan's, but skiers and other outdoor groups. If not for them and the unceasing hard work to build the Izaak Walton Inn in to what it is today...the new management would not have the jewel of a property that it is. My family got a room for a couple of days in August & the prices weren't too bad - considering you are in the middle of a "Million Acres of Wilderness."
I'm sure the new company does not like to formally commit to a block room rate when they can make just as much or more renting the rooms individually during prime autumn "color" season - therefore the perhaps unreasonble rate changes.
Of course, there are many hotels in Kalispell or Whitefish, but then - there is the drive and probably their policies are not much better.
East Glacier won't work as the hotel is closed after U.S. Labor Day.
Hope you guys can find an acceptable solution to this unfortunate turn of events
Talk to ya later,
Dale Jones
