Many emails have been exchanged on this subject matter, and it's clear that my original post was mis-leading and inapproriate.
Attendance at Alta-Monts has been dwindling over the years. The new management at the IWI has chosen to take a more progressive attitude toward groups and the management of the hotel.
The organizers of the annual event have chosen to take Alta-Mont in a different direction. It was never a case of getting "kicked out" of Essex.
While some of us took this to mean that railfans are not welcome at Essex, it is clearly not the case and I am sorry that my post and other comments have been taken out of context.
As most of you know, Essex and the IWI is one of the true gems of the North American railfan experience , and a visit there should be on every fan's "must do" list. That has not changed. Please patronize the hotel and tell your friends to do the same, as many of have done over the years. Encouraging others to stay there continues the strong business established there over the years by Sid and Mille, Richard and Lynda and now, the current owners.
