Just as I thought would happen, the Eugene, Oregon city leaders have just voted to ban any coal trains through town, heading for Coos Bay for overseas shipment. Voted 5-3, I believe. Other Oregon towns have also voted for the ban. I actually saw people celebrating this vote yesterday, waving signs from the sidewalk, in more than one part of town. Can the cities actually do this, legally? I know that a lot of people in Eugene would protest trains, and go for a ban of all train cargoes, if they could pull their heads out of their a**es and read the tank car content of most trains coming through this town. There is a lot more to this subject and ban than we know, I believe. At least, 3 of the counselors voted for business, and the train and track improvements connected to it.
