If the City of Vallejo has any real hope of digging themselves out of the hole they've found themselves in, why isn't Lenare dealt with rather than just going along with Lenare? I just don't see how booting out established businesses does any city any good. It's bad PR for the city and doing it or going along with the booting out process surely doesn't boost it's image as a business friendly entity. Even over in Suisun City, the surrounding homeowners wanted no part in the construction of a Wal-Mart store at the Peterson-Walters Road interchange. But damn the torpedos, full speed ahead because of what: sales tax $$$ would be forthcoming? Anyone who thinks a Wal-Mart store built is good for the community is insane. Ever wonder why the stores are always built on the edge of the city?

Putting businesses out onto the street including those business employees doesn't increase the city's incoming sales tax renenue. Maybe the people in charge of dismantling the mothball fleet out in the Suisun Bay need to continue taking those ships down to Texas rather than doing the right thing and putting people to work over at the MISY instead. Fairfield has this idea of stretching out the city limits to include a train station, housing and businesses in the northeast corner of it rather than addressing other important city issues and filling in vacant land in the business parks where available rail service exists.

Sure, go ahead Lenare and build houses atop tainted if not toxic soil and see what happens when those homeowners start becoming ill from the soil underneath their homes or from their children playing in the dirt. Lenare does not reside in Vallejo much less anywhere within close proximity of the city other from just a developer who just wants to line their pockets with some quick cash. Putting people to work building houses is short term. What about long term?

Has the financing for such a project been lined up or is the whole idea of building houses and having only houses on out Mare Island just a pipe dream with the green tabacco?
