OK - I see where Rollin Roberts was a trainmaster on the SD&AE and later had something to do with SP engineer's training on the simulator.
Question - Did he have something to do directly with the Alco C415 design, or used his influence to con SP into buying them?
Obviously the C415 was Alco's attempt to compete with the SW1500, and the S6/T6 were too low of horsepower to handle the heavier cars. I don't think the V8-251 was too popular, though I think some exports may have gotten it. So what possesed Alco to design a center cab instead of their typical end-cab?
Notice the whole center cab design resurfaced with the first gen-set design, and promptly was forgotten on subsequent orders.
Thanks
