The original price tag on this project from South San Jose to the north side was $382 million. Shortly after the ground breaking ceremony, it soared to $500 millionish. The last I saw, for this first leg, was $780 millionish. The article says that the entire system cost $2 billion? That means all the other segments were $1.2 billion. Seems a little low, but who's counting. It was a mess to begin with. It didn't connect with the airport, it went through downtown at 10 MPH, the Tamien Station had to be built to connect with CalTrain, but should have connected with the downtown SP depot.
But in the end, Rod Diridon got his name on the San Jose Depot and Norm Mineta on the San Jose International sign for this enormous boondoogle. They should have named some prisons after them!!!
