The strangest motive power I have seen in the PNW was early in 2012 when a NS GE was found running long lead first on the head of Talgo train #507. That unit made the circuit to Eugene and ran the next day back to Seattle.
There was also a time in the 1980's when the BN refused to allow the operation of the SDP40's between Portland and Seattle. Amtrak used a pair of Southern F-units that were added and removed in Portland.
