I agree with the Little Lake Listener. The action and political focus needs to change to Sacramento.
If we are to make any headway against the NCRA , Democratic legislators need to be contacted so that they understand the public no longer supports corporate welfare for the freight investors.
Without this welfare, they'll eventually go away, because they can't make any money without it.
Let's face it, the rail row through the Eel River Canyon and in Arcata has a much higher and better social use than freight. It's a natural for a rails-to-trails conversion. It generates far more social benefits than freight and is consistent with the long term interests of people living in the region and from the rest of the state. But the Little Lake Listerner is right. For this to happen, the NCRA enabling legislation needs to be changed and the state sourced corporate welfare checks need to be stopped.
