Using your link I found the following to be interesting. The 224' bridge weighed 156 tons, adding 70 ton (gross) loaded 40' cars or locomotives brings the total to 548 tons. With 100 lb rail (probably high) it comes to 555.5 tons. (Bridge + train + rail) Probably a good bit more. The document states: "Originally the Hayden Bridge had guard rails, but they were removed to reduce dead load." I'm sure the guard rails were 100lb. or less but using 100 lbs. the guards weigh 7.5 tons or less than 1.4% of the total. I guess every bit counts.
