Thanks SP4460- I need reading lessons, cuz I missed that on the eBart site
A small note about design of the elevated structures.
The PBTB joint venture and whoever at BART decided to write their own design code- for concrete anyways. It was based on working stresses. The concrete building industry uses the code wriiten by the American Concrete Institute, RRs wrote their own thru AERA etc. The RR code was a few years behind the ACI. ACI was in the first stages of dumping working stress in favor of strength methods, a better measure of behavior and safety.
SO
Evaluation of existing elevated structures using present methods could indeed result in higher confidence levels at increased loads
