Followup on my last note: Caltrain does have a plan. It does depend on HSR money, so consider it in that light. But here it is: start paperwork (EIR etc.) in 2014, open in 2019.

An odd thought, though: Caltrain currently runs to Gilroy. Wires would only go to Tamien (there's a small layover yard just south of the station). The Gilroy trains (only 3 of them each way, so it's obvious why wires wouldn't go that far even if UP weren't a factor) go through to SF. So how do those work with electrification? Could see some possibilities:

* Make everybody change trains in SJ (how many ways can you say Bad Move?)
* Get some electric locos & change from diesels in SJ (operationally messy)
* Add/drop a diesel to the EMUs in SJ for the Gilroy segment (something doesn't feel right ...)
* Get a few dual-powers like NY commuter lines have and run through, probably using some of the existing cars (feels best operationally, but dual-powers are $$$pricey$$$ and mostly custom jobs at this point)
