The problem I have with this kind of article is how pristine can a canyon be if the hill sides continue to fall into it (as if the railroad is the only thing washing out), and how can the state do the upkeep of bridges, tunnels, and ROW when the storms take them out and there is no revenue base to support its continued maintenance.
You can bet the bike groups are already lobbying for this railroad's demise. If they were to know that the line would be closed with bridges removed and tunnels blasted as in this article:
