As of this afternoon, there are 6 bulkhead flats full of concrete ties, not to mention those now in Petaluma and Novato. SMART is using concrete ties and 115 pd. ribbon rail. The wood you saw at Burdell are the wood ties from the siding which has been torn up by NWP MoW crews. In the next week or so, NWP will use front loaders and a hyrail mounted crane and moved the existing 132 lb ribbon rain and good ties over to the siding grade. SMART contractor will construct the new main line in the abandoned grade. SMART is not interested in the siding but NWP is so the the OLD main line will become the NEW siding at Burdell. Longer range plans include restoring the in motion scale.
