In time there won't be any more ag in Sonoma County other than wine grapes and specialty stuff. The grain elevators will be gone, probably replaced with section 8 low income housing.

Been over to McDowell in Petaluma recently? Strictly strip mall on steroids. Tracts and strip malls and McMansions in the hills for the ritchie riches the future of the Northbay. Santa Rosa wants so bad to be San Jose. Forget about freight for NCRA-NWP.

And that's exactly what SMART is counting on. The "smart" move would have 136lb. rail because it is likely to hold up a little better under deferred maintenance conditions. SMART will run up some big operating deficits and have little left for maintenance. There won't be much sympathy for SMART, especially when it tries to grab bus subsidy money.
