I use Lufthansa to get from SFO to Koeln about once a year. I stay at a small hotel about five blocks from the train station, which is across the street from the cathedral right downtown. It sure makes travel easy.
The problem with saying that the average US citizen won't use such a service here is simple... There is no such service here. How do people know what citizens will use until they have the option? People use cars because they are better than the other options... Today.
The other thing that bugs me is saying that we should put our money into conventional rail first. We have and are. California now has three of the five busiest conventional rail passenger corridors in the US. There are also several other conventional rail services planned or scheduled for upgrades.
Do we need to upgrade our local services? Sure. I am willing to increase my taxes to pay for it. Are the complainers?
