The post below is very well said. If Republicans (and those on this board) have there way, our infrastructure will continue to crumble. There's plenty of money for tax breaks for the rich and to subsidize oil company executives, but little money for the likes of National Parks or infrastructure development.
I was just in Taiwan. You can get between the two largest cities in 2 hours by very comfortable high speed rail. The US is a joke when it comes to transportation. The US has minimal public transportation and deteriorating bridges and roads. I can't just blame the Republicans either, to be fair.
"If tax dollars are being "wasted" on a HSR system, we're treated to these types of essays where all of you self-appointed experts over-think everything and have all the answers.
If taxpayer dollars are "invested" on wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, or on college tuition for illegal aliens, or studies on the sex life of the snail darter, everyone is as quiet as a church mouse.
I don't get it.
Why is HSR the favored whipping boy?
Personally, I'd rather have my tax dollars "wasted" on high speed rail."
