If anything, we'll likely see more Advanced-Preemption Circuits in service on crossings. Everyone talks about PTC since it is a hot-button issue but Advanced Preemption is what really saves lives here (even if some of those lives are engaged in risk-taking behavior). "Smart Islands" could become a bigger thing too, I know Ansaldo STS / US&S has been pushing their "intelligent" Model 95s for awhile with a PTC-Island interlock component or something like that.
All comments about the CEM failing aside, it actually looks like it did its job and kept the rear two coaches upright. Also none of the coaches buckled or telescoped in the collision, and in fact they look like they sustained as much damage as the Arkansas Midland ACEs after their rollover and could easily be returned to service if they held up well. Don't be surprised if we see bigger plows on the Rotems though.
