I caught a 9 pm ktla? news update with NTSB. The official stated that the truck got 300' down the rails to the west. As he was speaking, you could hear sounds of heavy equipment. The train was being moved this evening. Surveyors with scanning equipment were out there previously to document the scene. They will have a complete 3 dimensional model of where the train and destroyed truck ended up. Black boxes have been recovered and will be flown to D.C. tomorrow. He also mentioned the inward and outward facing video which was also downloaded. I doubt we will ever see that plus it was dark when this happened. They hope to have a similar train run later in the week to do visual checks. I see from yahoo headline that the truck driver was arrested for suspicion of felony hit and run. In late afternoon, I caught a minute or two of BBC America news and the LA based reporter stated that the entire Metrolink system was shut down. Right! Probably really meant the Ventura Line was shut down. Regular local ditz' news reporters will probably be on scene tomorrow, so look forward to see what they did with rail equipment. Will likely be on the RR r-o-w or close by.
