Virtually all State highways in California are eligible for funding participation from U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration. While there are many complexities to the funding formulas, generally there is little difference between eligibility of State highways (E.G. 101) and those that are part of the Federal Interstate System (e.g. I-5). The federal share in any given project is about 25%.
