To all ---
thank you very much for the very interesting
and informativne answers. Fascinating!..
Joe Magruder ---
How cool that was to only have needed to tell
the operator what area you wanted to be connected
to! Yes, direct dial back then was quite rare.
Edward ---
I remember that building. Used to drive over
to Oakland to railfan with my sons i the 70s
and early 80s, and would often hang out at
the end of Bay St. There was a nice-looking
2-story concrete building on the right side
of Bay St., at the end, right next to the
West Oakland Yard. And how wonderful it was that
you got to intereact with that neat old lady --
who was living history. Oh -- the stories she
could have told! Ahhhhh.....those were the
days.....
Don --- Napa --
Please do share some of those many stories
your wife has -- if doing so would not get
anyone living in trouble. Thanks! And such
a beautiful building to work in -- a Victorian.
Neat!
I absolutely love this site -- I have learned a LOT
about many things, including lots about non-railroad
topics. THANK you, David Curlee, for letting us all
have the space and freedom to talk about just about
anything we want to. This site is the first site I
go to when I turn on my computer in the morning.
