Margaret, Espee officials in Los Angeles used to have a similar conference on PBX every weekday morning. Perhaps this was a system - wide policy.
My mother's first job was as a receptionist and PBX operator at Schlick - Barner - Hayden Advertising in Cleveland. I recognized the PBX board pictured from her excellent description.
In the 1970's my mother had a 213 area code line installed in the family machine shop in Fullerton, CA., ( a 714 area code then ) as a convenience to the Mattel Toys engineers in contacting their offices in Hawthorne. This 213 line was really A BIG DEAL to the Pacific Telephone people !!! They acted as though they had to string the line themselves from Hawthorne. Mom said: " Too bad -- DO it." I was always warned to "... not use the 213 line for 714 calls."
