Leave the I-5 route to Hyperloop - it can handle the flyover traffic and can't turn corners anyway, but the concept so far wouldn't provide a useful transportation service for the in-between places of the state anyway. The HSR route is the correct one for a RAILROAD that has to provide transportation service for the masses, not just a few rich folk and business types who just have to get from SF to LA Right Now. But then the original proposition had nothing to do with transportation anyway, really, other than a little fallout for transit.

Remember, the original proposition was a Kopp & Friends production, starring Arnold, and carefully written so that NOTHING can meet all of its requirements. Jerry likes it because it fits his Ecotopia concept, but I suspect that if he had been able to have real input into how it was conceived it would look somewhat different - and something on I-5 likely would have been part of it. Read "Ecotopia" and consider that it was the Administration Bible his first time around (and probably isn't too far from that now).
