I was looking at the old topo maps for Berkeley and noticed that there used to be some interesting industrial leads that are now totally gone. I was curious if anyone knew how much some of these were used, when they declined in use, and finally when they were disconnected.
The first group is off the land side lead between Harrison and Camelia. It looks like there was a complete loop in this area. Fascinating.
The second group is down by the south end of Aquatic Park, but off the land side lead. On the topo map from the 60's there's just a mess of leads through looping all over here, as well as some customers whose buildings are right on the tracks. One in particular comes up Potter St. and turns south and runs through a ROW alley down Powell St. This may be Emeryville at this point.
Just curious if anyone has some historical deets. I believe that today there is just one tank car customer north of Emeryville, nothing else. Amazing how much business was lost. Why!?
