There is nothing wrong with continuing to use "speeders" for commercial track work.
The last shiney new speeder came out of the Fairmont factory in 1993. Not that long ago really. They are still used, although in limited number on Commercial railroads today, including some of the best known names. They are still used extensivey by contractors doing specialized track construction and track rehabilitation. One size does not fit all, and hy-rails are not the best tool for every job.
