Interesting concept ... but isn't ACE carrying largely Santa Clara rather than San Jose commuters? If so, rerouting via Milpitas could hurt; there's no convenient transfer to Santa Clara unless BART someday (and many billion$ from now) goes there.
There's another maxim in transit: minimize transfers. Even well-coordinated, they cost time and riders. One transfer is often acceptable if it doesn't break up a long run in the middle, but two or more loses big time. So a Shinn transfer (first time I heard of that one proposed) would make sense (providing access to Milpitas), as would running ACE over a rebuilt Dumbarton with Caltrain for the "last mile." But running through Milpitas, for Santa Clara riders, would require multiple transfers via BART, VTA, Caltrain, etc.
Well-coordinated shuttles, if the distance is short, can work. Is there a shuttle between Centerville and Fremont BART that coordinates with ACE train times?
