The number I was given on the Port tour I took last week, for the Port Of LB-Port Of LA is around 400,000 TEU's per day, or approximately 200,000 40' containers--100,000 each way. Could Eureka possibly carry 1/2% of the LA-LB total?
Probably is likely to be more of a port for non container commodities, like aggregate and autos if there is good rail access. Autos are a real possibility as they would have the land side capacity to unload, store, prepare, and ship, that LA-LB Ports are running out of. Port Hueneme has been trying for some of that traffic, but UP won't service that port adequately. But, this is certainly a "possible" container level, even for Eureka, over the next 30 years, given the expected west coast growth in trade demand.
